Dan Hawk
Born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in Tampa, Florida, Dan Hawk earned the rank of Eagle Scout in February 1986 and graduated from T. R. Robinson High School in June 1986. That same month, he followed the tradition started by his father, two uncles, and brother, and entered the Navy. He attended Recruit Training in Orlando, Florida, Yeoman “A” School in Meridian, Mississippi, and reported aboard USS FORRESTAL (CV 59) home ported in Mayport, Florida in December of 1986 where he served as a Clerk Typist to the Executive Officer and as the Officer Records Clerk in CO’s Admin.
In February 1990, Dan transferred to Patrol Squadron THIRTY at Naval Air Station Jacksonville where he was assigned to the AIRLANT NATOPS team, inspecting P-3 squadrons around the globe. He reported to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team TWO at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, VA in September 1993, serving as a small boat coxswain instructor and operator. He reported to Naval Nuclear Power Training Command Orlando, Florida in October 1996 as the Student Control Leading Petty Officer. In December 1998, he moved with the command to Naval Weapons Station Charleston, Goose Creek, South Carolina. In September 2001, Dan transferred to the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) home ported in Mayport, Florida. Aboard KENNEDY he served as the X-1 Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and was privileged to deploy with his three brothers aboard KENNEDY during the 2002 combat deployment to Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon transfer from KENNEDY, Dan completed Yeoman “C” School in Meridian, Mississippi, and reported to Commander, Carrier Strike Group SIX aboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) as the Flag Writer to Rear Admiral Donald Bullard. He transferred with Admiral Bullard to U.S. Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia in September 2004, and subsequently to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Virginia in December 2005. He retired from active service as a Chief Petty Officer in February of 2008 and immediately started his current career as a civil servant.
Dan started bowling league when he was 10 years old and lettered in bowling in high school. He returned to the sport he loves after retirement from the Navy, and participates in at least three leagues a week. He is an inaugural member of the Demolition Crew team of the Underground Bowling Association. He also competes in tournaments around the country including PBA50 regionals, the Open Championships, Military Team Classic, Military Bowling Championships, the Hoinke, and sweepers anywhere from Florida to Virginia.As a volunteer, he is an association director for the Tidewater Virginia USBC, a primary team member for the PBA Booster Club of Hampton Roads, and a member of the Board of Directors for Strike Against Suicide – Spare a Life.
